Our Master Coaches develop Master Coaches right in your school and district to profoundly impact culture and build capacity for immediate and lasting improvements in instruction and learning.

Coaches are the people in the system whose job it is to raise provocative and challenging questions with teachers, principals and administrators, and keep the conversation focused on student learning to build the expertise and knowledge of all concerned.

MetamorphosisTLC employs Content-Focused Coaching, a well-grounded, professionally researched improvement strategy, developed by our founder, Lucy West, to cultivate a shared understanding of effective instruction among coaches, teacher leaders, principals and administrators. This collaboration across roles results in a collective clarity about the work at hand which results in coherence, purpose and focus district-wide.

Our Master Coaches focus on effective instruction, because it is the number one variable to improve student performance. We interweave content coaching with lesson study and ground the work in professional learning communities. Based on personal observation and professional experience, we have found content coaching combined with study lessons to be the most effective way to insure profound, sustainable, system-wide improvements in teaching and learning.

Our experience, backed by the findings of many national experts, tells us there is room for significant improvement in teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge. The vast majority of teachers are well intentioned, dedicated people who may or may not have the requisite skills to effectively impact student learning. In order to upgrade teachers’ knowledge base and pedagogical skill set, districts need to invest in job-embedded professional development (coaching) over the long haul. Quality instruction cannot be mandated; it must be cultivated!
