Linda Dolinko-Gold is one of those coaches who can transform teachers’ practice. She knows elementary and middle school math content inside and out and has a deep understanding of teacher development. Her ability to build relationships with new and experienced teachers of all teaching backgrounds is exceptional. She can uncover a teacher's strengths and needs with a few simple discussion prompts.
Linda has 30 years experience in NYC and NYS public schools. She taught elementary and middle school in the Bronx, NY for 17 of those years. Linda worked as a teacher-consultant with the New York City Mathematics Project at Lehman College for six years, providing support to teachers in classrooms and leading professional development in school districts across the country. In addition to providing professional development at the school and district levels, she taught graduate courses for mathematics educators at Lehman College, with a particular focus on the role of discourse in math classrooms. Several of the teachers with whom she worked have themselves become teacher leaders. Linda has also had an article published in NCTM’s Teaching Children Mathematics.
Through her leadership in the NSF funded Students at the Center Grant, and as Project Director on the Classroom-based Assessment in Mathematics Education (CLAME) grants funded by the Greenwall Foundation, Linda introduced teachers across NYC to protocols for studying student work and working well with standards based curriculum materials. Teaching That Makes A Difference: Lessons Learned by the New York City Mathematics Project, is a published report describing this work and is available at: www.lehman.cuny.edu/liststudies.
Linda took over the newly created position of Math Instructional Specialist (K-5) for the White Plains Public Schools as the district implemented the newly adopted Investigations in Number, Data, and Space (TERC). Her collaborative leadership style and ability to work with the Math Task Force, supported the successful district-wide implementation of this standards-based curriculum. Her deep knowledge of the NYS Standards, and her understanding of how children learn mathematics content K-5 across the strands, plus her ability to communicate these concepts and make them accessible to teachers and administrators contributed to her success.
