One of the most powerful practices that we’ve experienced is study lessons in which we work through the content to be taught using curriculum materials and resources, connect it back to the standards and assessments and then publicly and collaboratively plan lessons together. Our teams then have the opportunity to watch Lucy, or one of her colleagues, co-teach in ways that demonstrate powerful instructional strategies. The consultants are particularly skilled at developing robust and content-focused discourse that results in both adult and student learning. In addition we have studied student work and learned to give descriptive feedback to our students or use the work to inform our lesson designs and instruction.

I was so impressed with this day. I enjoyed all the different talk moves that I was able to see. I’ve read Classroom Discussions, but seeing it in actual action just helps strengthen my knowledge of how I am doing in my classroom presently. I am loving it! I learned that there are so many ways my students can think during a math lesson, and I will take this way of teaching with me as I go about my day. A little reassurance was awesome. I wonder why we weren’t trained in this before, because students need to be such great thinkers and if we only give them the time, they will be.
